The National Institutes of Health Electronic Commodities Store III contract was awarded in November 2002 to NetStar-1, bringing us a GWAC-type contract vehicle that has been recognized for its breadth of product choice, flexibility and ease of use. The NIH NITAAC program office, which manages the ECS III contract, has made a great effort to attract strong security solutions for today's post 9/11 environment. As reported in Federal Computer Week, the NIH contracting office began to address security requirements through previously awarded NIH GWAC contracts. Unlike previous NIH contracts, ECS III includes a services component, which allows for more complex solutions to be acquired and deployed while using the contract vehicle.
